Circle ottomans are not difficult to make.

A round, fabric ottoman is basically a firm, round pillow that goes on the floor. The difference between the ottoman and a pillow is that the ottoman is taller, firmer and can be used as a footstool or pillow.

Instructions

    • 1

Cut two circles from fabric about 24 inches across. Cut a rectangle about 24 inches wide and one inch longer than the circumference of the circles.

    • 2

Cut two pieces of cording one inch longer than the circumference of the circles. Cut two, 2-inch wide strips of fabric equaling the same measurement.

    • 3

Wrap the cording in the fabric strips. Sew a strip to the long side of each rectangle.

    • 4

Sew the rectangle around the circumference of the fabric circles, hiding the raw edges of the fabric and the fabric under the cording. Make sure the cording is hidden inside the pillow.

    • 5

Cut the ends of the cording and slide the cord together, creating a seamless circle around the top and bottom of the two circles. Stitch the fabric together along the joint by hand.

    • 6

Sew the two edges of the rectangle together, leaving a 6-inch opening.

    • 7

Turn the pillow inside out, hiding all seam edges.

    • 8

Stuff the pillow as full as possible with the buckwheat hulls. Sew the remaining opening closed by hand.

Tips & Warnings

  • Sew each seam twice for the ottoman to ensure the seams remain in place even under the strain of a person’s full weight.

  • To make this project even easier, eliminate the cording altogether.
