How to Collage Your Dresser
The art of collage allows you to put many different elements together to create one riotous, entertaining image. Collage is often used for photographs or various paper elements. This art form is ideal when you want to decorate a dresser. Dressers usually have a vast expanse of flat space that "cry out" for decoration. Collage the top of your dresser or extend your project to decorate the front panels of the cabinets as well. Does this Spark an idea?
Things You'll Need
- Scissors
- Paper media
- Drop cloth
- 150-grit sandpaper
- 400-grit sandpaper
- Clean cloth
- Paintbrush
- Decoupage medium

Cut out the images that you wish to collage with a pair of scissors. Use scrapbook paper, photographs or magazine images as sources.

Put down a drop cloth to protect your work area.

Sand the area of the dresser that you want to collage with 150-grit sandpaper, followed by 400-grit sandpaper.

Wipe away any sawdust using a clean cloth.

Apply a coat of decoupage medium to the surface of the dresser using a paintbrush.

Lay the paper images that you want to use onto the surface that you painted with decoupage medium. Smooth them flat with your fingers.

Allow the decoupage medium to dry thoroughly.

Apply a second coat of decoupage medium to the top of your collage, sealing them in. When the decoupage medium is dry, the dresser is finished.

Tips & Warnings
Wet the paper images before applying them to the dresser to help them lay flat.
