Making glow-in-the-dark slime is a fun and interesting acticity.

Children of all ages enjoy playing with and making craft projects out of gooey slime, especially if the slime glows in the dark. Although you can buy glow-in-the-dark slime from toy stores, it is relatively easy for children to make their own out of a few basic ingredients. You can also engage your kids in a fun science lesson by showing them the materials required to make slime.

Things You'll Need

  • 1/4 cup white glue
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1 cup warm water
  • 1 tbsp. borax
  • 1 tbsp. nontoxic glow-in-the-dark paint
  • Food coloring (any color)
  • 1/2 tbsp. glow-in-the-dark paint

Instructions

      Stir 1 tbsp. of borax into 1 cup of warm water. Mix it until the borax is dissolved. Pour it into the bowl.

      Mix 1/4 cup of glue with 1/4 cup of water. Pour it into the borax mixture. Add the food coloring and the glow-in-the-dark paint. Stir the mixture well.

      Knead the mixture with your hands until it resembles a satisfactory slime texture. If you feel the slime is too sticky, add 1 tsp. of borax to the mixture. To make the mixture less slippery, add 1 tbsp. of glue mixed with 1 tbsp. of water.

      Place the slime mixture into direct sunlight or bright light for at least three minutes. When you make a room dark, the slime will glow in the dark.

  • To keep the slime fresh, keep it in the fridge in a resealable the plastic bag or box.

  • Older children can add a few drops of an anti-bacterial cleaner to the mixture to help keep the slime mold-free.

  • Wash hands before playing with slime to prevent any mold from forming on the slime.

  • Be sure to store borax away from small children and pets as it is toxic in larges doses.

  • Supervise young children when making and playing with the slime to ensure none is put in a child's mouth or on the face. Store the slime out of the reach of children when not playing with it.

  • This glow-in-the-dark slime can stain furniture and carpets.

  • Dispose of any unwanted slime in a garbage can. Washing it down the sink may cause a blockage or damage your drains.
