Wedding favors are a nice way to thank guests for attending your special day.

Designing and creating your own wedding favors can greatly cut costs in your wedding budget. Miniature butterfly shadow boxes add a touch of whimsy and elegance to your wedding theme while leaving your guests with a nice gift they can use in their homes. Plan to make at least enough shadow box wedding favors for each household that is attending your wedding. Wedding favors can be set on guest tables or in a basket near the venue's exit for guests to take as they leave.

Instructions

    • 1

Measure the outer edges of a picture frame that is slightly larger than the faux butterfly. Cut four pieces of a plywood to the measurements. Glue the pieces and then nail them together with a hammer and small nails. Cut a piece of plywood to fit the back of the square. Glue and nail it to the back of the square. Stain or paint the wood as desired.

Remove the glass from the picture frame. Screw one side of a pair of hinges to the back of the picture frame, and the other side of the hinges to an edge of the shadow box. Replace the glass.

    • 3

Open the door of the shadow box. Hot glue the butterfly inside the box. Or, to make a 3-D effect, attach foam adhesive or a spring to the back of the butterfly. Include other embellishments, such as faux flowers, lettering, bows or rhinestones to the shadow box as desired.
