How to Make a Scary Wig for Halloween
The key to a scary Halloween costume is frightening and fabulous hair. To protect your own mane from hours of teasing or even applying orange hair color to your strands, you can create your own scary hair with a wig. Whether you are dressed as a witch, ghoul or goblin you can shape and mold your wig into a style that will complement your Halloween costume. Be brave and try a new shade of hair color or wear a new spooky style this October 31 without damaging your own hair.

Punk Rock Scary Wig
-
1
Divide your chin-length or medium-length wig into three sections to create a center Mohawk section and two side parts. Secure the top section with large butterfly clips.
-
2
Slick the side sections of the wig back with gel. If the wig is short, slick the side sections behind the ears. For longer wigs, create a low ponytail at the nape to keep the side sections tight and taught. Blow hair with a hot blow dryer to keep the hair sleek and to stiffen the hair.

3
Smooth gel on the center section of the hair. Create four to five large spikes from the forehead to the nape by smoothing the hair upwards with the palms of your hands. Blow the hair dry with a hot dryer to stiffen each spike and finish your punk rock look.
-
4
Spray the wig with a few shots of colored spray. Use craft glue to attach plastic bugs to your spiked wig, for a creepy-crawly Halloween look.
Zombie Scary Wig

5
Take a rattail comb and tease a brown or black medium-length or long wig. Spay the wig with medium-hold hairspray.
-
6
Pour ¼ cup of flour into a small bowl. Cover your kitchen table or counter top with old newspapers.
-
7
Place the wig on top of the newspaper. Hold the small bowl over the wig and shake lightly to dust the wig with flour. Once the wig is covered with flour, shake it over the newspaper to catch any loose flour that is not attached to the wig.
-
8
Glue plastic spider webs and plastic spiders to make your wig more spooky and scary. Allow your wig to dry for 30 minutes
-
9
Spray the wig with hairspray to set the flour. Cover your head with a scarf or a knit stocking cap before placing the zombie-inspired wig on your head.

Tips & Warnings
To make your wig extra creepy, drag it in dirt before teasing it to give it a grungy and grimy look.
Keep your wig from sliding off your hair by attaching it to a scarf or knit stocking cap with hairpins.
