How to Iron a Pinwheel Quilt
Like any cloth material, quilting material can wrinkle. This can be especially unattractive if the quilt is to be used as a bedspread or wall hanging and the quilt will still appear wrinkled even when spread flat. Luckily, ironing the quilt will remove most, if not all, of the wrinkles. Ironing a pinwheel quilt is similar to ironing most cloth articles. Therefore it is something that almost anybody can complete in minutes.

Adjust the setting on the iron for the material with which your quilt is made. Typically, quilts are made from a cotton or cotton mix material. The batting is often also a cotton mix. Plastic or synthetic batting will not survive ironing, also known as pressing. That will require a steaming process where steam is applied to the batting with a steam machine or in a steam room or even a bathroom where hot showers will be taken. Pressing a quilt can only be done on natural cotton batting and not synthetic materials.

Lay the quilt on an ironing board or flat surface. Place a towel on any flat surface that is not an ironing board to protect the surface from heat damage. The towel should go over the flat surface and under the quilt.

Iron each patch of the quilt individually. Begin at the center of the patch and work outwards. This will prevent any creasing from occurring in the middle of each patch. It will also create a cleaner seam between each patch. Apply light pressure to each patch to remove the wrinkles. Do not drag the iron across the fabric. Some deeper wrinkles may require more pressure or a longer time under the iron. Hold the iron on the quilt for a few seconds and then release the iron. Repeat if necessary. Do this for each patch in the quilt.
