How Do I Change My Default Setting From GIF to JPEG in Mozilla Firefox?

Mozilla Firefox is a versatile Web browser. In addition to using it to browse Internet sites, you can use it to open certain file types for viewing purposes. You can't use it to change files or file types with it, which means that you can't use it to convert image file types from GIF to JPEG. You can only do that in photo- or image-editing programs such as Photoshop or Paint Shop Pro. However, you can set file associations in Windows so that Firefox will open GIF or JPEG files by default using the Default Programs control.

Instructions

    • 1

Click "Start" and "Default Programs" to open the Default Programs window.

    • 2

Select the "Associate a file type or protocol with a program" option to open the File Association window.

    • 3

Scroll down the table until you reach GIF.

    • 4

Click "Change Program" to open the Open With dialog.

    • 5

      Select "Firefox" from the list.

    • 6

      Click "OK."

    • 7

Repeat Steps 3 through 6 for JPEG files.
