How to Finish Off a Friendship Bracelet for Wearing

Friendship bracelets are fabric bracelets that were first popularized in the 1970s. They're usually given as gifts, from one friend to another, to symbolize the bond of friendship. Although there are a few variations of friendship bracelets, most of them are created by braiding four pieces of string (which are folded in half to create eight strands) together. After you've braided your four strings to the length that you want your bracelet to be, it's simply a matter of finishing the bracelet so that you -- or your friend -- can wear it.

Instructions

    • 1

Separate your eight strands of string into two equal groups. This means that each group should have the same amount of colors in the same pattern. For instance, if your friendship bracelet is yellow and black, then both groups of strands should contain equal parts of yellow and black thread.

    • 2

Braid these two groups separately, continuing with the braiding pattern that you have been using to create the friendship bracelet itself. This should create two "mini braids" connected to the larger friendship bracelet. Continue braiding until each strand is about 4 inches long.

    • 3

Tie one of the mini braids into a knot by creating a loop with the strand, and then pulling the end of the braid through the loop. Repeat this step with the other mini braid.

    • 4

Cut off excess string with a pair of scissors. Your friendship bracelet is now finished.
