How to Care for a Fruit Della Robbia

Della robbia decorations were popular in Colonial times.

An authentic della robbia uses fresh or dried natural materials. Garlands, centerpieces or wreaths decorated with a base of greenery, cones, fruit, nuts and flowers add a classic detail to home decor during any season. Fresh floral decorations have a short life expectancy. With proper care and attention to suitable conditions, the della robbia remains vibrant and festive for days to come.

Instructions

1. In a warm climate or indoors, mist the greenery of the della Robbia with water. For a wreath, spray it from behind to avoid spraying dried items, such as dehydrated fruit or nuts. Water should not be necessary for an outdoor della robbia wreath or swag.

2. For a della robbia centerpiece, refresh water in the floral foam base at least every other day for a vibrant decoration.

3. Recut stems of fresh greenery, removing 1 inch to 2 inches with a sharp knife or gardening shears.

4. To prevent premature drying, keep della robbias away from direct sunlight, heating vents or radiators and ceiling fans.

Tips & Warnings

• If the arrangement or wreath is displayed for several days, the dying fruit can be replaced.

• Dried fruit and flowers are a perfect substitute for fresh materials in any climate.
