Indian brides wear buns as part of their bridal updo in order to appear taller so that they can compliment their grooms' height. The buns, which come in many styles, can be placed high on a bride's head. Buns can be messy or formal, depending on the embellishments the bride will be adding to her hair. Often the bun is embellished with flowers and jewelry to add beauty to the bride's hair. A basic bun can be created following a few simple steps. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Brush your hair thoroughly. Be sure to eliminate any tangles as you brush.

    • 2

Put your hair into a pony tail in the center, back of your head at the height you need the bun to set. The bun can be positioned low down towards your neck, centered in the back of your head or placed high up on your crown to add height. While it is not necessary, you can use a pony tail holder to secure the pony tail in place while you continue working on the bun.

    • 3

Mist your hair lightly with hairspray to moisten it. Doing so will also help prevent fly away ends from protruding from the bun.

    • 4

Grasp the end of your hair and begin twisting. Continue twisting until your hair forms a firm rope and starts to ripple.

    • 5

Wrap the twisted hair around the base of your pony tail. Continue wrapping until you reach the end of your hair. Tuck the end of your hair between your bun and your head and hold it in place with your fingers.

    • 6

Secure the end of your hair in place with a hair stick, bobby pin or a thin pony tail holder. If using the pony tail holder, place it entirely over the bun to catch the end of your hair.

    • 7

Place pins around the entire bun to shape it and hold it in place so that it does not come loose during your wedding day. Use as many pins as needed to hold the inner edges securely to your head and to provide support for the weight of the bun.

    • 8

Spray heavily with hair spray so that loose ends do not come out of the bun. This will also prevent fly away strands of hair from popping up and will keep the bun looking smooth and fresh.

    • 9

Add embellishments carefully, using bobby pins to hold them in place as needed.
