DIY Bride's Cap
For some brides, a traditional veil or headpiece will not do. Bridal caps can be handmade to reflect the ambiance of your wedding, be it highly traditional or totally innovative. Start out by choosing a headpiece that fits your features and style -- anything from a sun hat with a wide brim to a beret will do. Add your own flair with items of decor like ribbon, bows, lace, flowers, birds or sequins. A do-it-yourself bridal cap can tie together the elements of style for your wedding almost as well as you tie the knot. Does this Spark an idea?

1
Attach ribbon by applying a thin seam of fabric glue to underside of ribbon and flatten against the circumference of your hat. The ribbon should start and end where you wish to apply your items of decor, so you can hide the seam.
-
2
Apply a small amount of glue to the underside or base of a decorative object. Hold it against the cap for 15 seconds, until the glue is set.

3
Create a tasteful display by filling in the spaces with smaller items using the same process. Smaller bows, flowers and feathers will help to disguise the bases of the larger items, effectively nesting them into the hat.
-
4
Finish with a veil. Measure your forehead, from temple to temple, and your face, from your chin to where your cap meets your forehead.
-
5
Insert the netting inside the front brim of the hat.
-
6
Apply dots of fabric glue to the veil material on the inside of the brim of the cap. Hold each dot in place for 45 seconds until set.

Tips & Warnings
Make sure your cap balances with your dress; a large, elaborate hat wouldn't balance out with a petite dress.
A bridal cap can be all white and subdued or bright and colorful -- it's all up to your preference.
Use caution with glue; apply in a well-ventilated area and do not allow it to adhere to your skin.
