How to: A 10-Second Crossfade in iTunes

How to: A 10-Second Crossfade in iTunes thumbnail
Crossfading helps songs in a playlist blend smoothly in iTunes.

Use the "Crossfade" function in the iTunes media player to blend the end of a playing song with the beginning of the next song in the playlist. When crossfading is enabled, iTunes smoothly fades between the two tracks, rather than stopping one song and starting the next. This type of crossfade prevents any gaps or abrupt changes from one song to another, keeping the music flowing. ITunes supports crossfade durations from one to 12 seconds.

Instructions

    • 1

Launch iTunes. Open the "Edit" menu and select "Preferences."

    • 2

Click the "Playback" button at the top of the Preferences window.

    • 3

Click to check the box next to "Crossfade Songs."

    • 4

Click and drag the "Crossfade Songs" slider all the way to the right, above the "12" marker. Afterward, drag it two markers to the left; this sets the crossfade duration to 10 seconds.

    • 5

Click the "OK" button. Click "Music," then double click a song. When there are 10 seconds left in the song's playing time, iTunes starts fading it out and fading in the next.
