How to Remove the Back Filter Cover From a Kenmore Progressive Canister Vacuum Cleaner

Meredith Jameson

The Kenmore Company produces many types of home appliances, including stoves, refrigerators, washers and dryers, and vacuum cleaners. Kenmore canister vacuums consist of a central unit that moves on wheels with a hose that attaches to the suction head. Kenmore Progressive canister vacuums feature a HEPA filtration system, variable power and a variety of attachment tools. The filter must be cleaned on a regular basis to ensure proper suction and performance and it is relatively easy to open the back filter cover to access the filter.

  1. Turn off the vacuum and disconnect from the power source. Pull the hood release on the vacuum canister and lift up to remove the back cover.

  2. Remove the dust bag from the compartment.

  3. Lift up the rubber retainer and lift out the filter.

  4. Pull back on the filter cover and remove the filter.
