DIY Bamboo Earrings

Gold precious metal clay has a consistency similar to polymer clay but, after being fired in a kiln, becomes a solid yet lightweight piece of 24-karat gold. This is possible because the product contains gold particles in a binder that makes it possible to mold the material easily. But the binder evaporates in the kiln, unifying and shrinking down the gold particles for the final product. Create a pair of gold earrings bearing the image of bamboo with PMC and a silicone mold.

Instructions

    • 1

Pull off a 1-inch ball of the gold precious metal clay and knead until softened. Press the clay firmly into the mold, taking care that the impressions of the design are fully and tightly filled. Continue until the clay is even with the top rim of the mold. Use more PMC from the package, if necessary.

    • 2

Turn the mold over, press on the center and pop out the finished design. Check that the design is well defined. Ball the clay back up and try again if it isn't. Move on to creating the second earring, using the same directions, if the first turned out well.

    • 3

Place the designs in the kiln for the time and temperature specified on the packaging. Remove from the kiln carefully and allow to cool overnight.

Use a drill to create one small hole at the top of each earring circle. Loop an opened jump ring through each circle. Slip the rounded end of an earwire over the jump ring. Use pliers to pinch the jump ring shut. Note that the jump ring should connect the earring to the earwire.
