How to Restore Stainless Steel Appliances

The smooth finish of stainless steel appliances provides a polished look to your kitchen. However, stainless steel is susceptible to tarnishing, discoloration and damage if exposed to acidic foods, and utensils can scratch the surface. If your appliances are dingy, cloudy or discolored, restore them properly to enjoy the shine and shimmer of stainless steel once again. Thin scratches can be polished to diminish their appearance as well.

Things You'll Need

• Stainless steel cleaner
• Sponge
• Soft cloth

Instructions

1. Apply a moderate amount of stainless steel cleaner to a lightly dampened sponge.

2. Rub the appliance surface in the direction of the stainless steel grain until you can no longer see the cleaner.

3. Buff the area with a clean, soft rag, rubbing in the same direction of the stainless steel grain to restore the finish.

4. Wipe the surface daily to avoid damage from the oils in your skin and any splatters or spills. Use stainless polish any time you notice fingerprints, cloudy finish or other dirt.
