Instructions

    • 1

Exchange or return the boots if they are new. It's possible that the squeak is caused by a manufacturing flaw and may not be repairable. If the squeak is caused by an aging shoe, however, you will have a better chance of fixing the problem.

    • 2

Walk around in a quiet area with your boots on so you can determine where the squeak is coming from. Figure out if both boots or just one is squeaking. Ask a friend to help you listen if you are having trouble zeroing in on the squeak.

    • 3

Find the materials that are rubbing together once you have located the squeak. As the boot ages, the materials it is made from can become dry, which leads to squeaking as the leather or other materials rub together.

    • 4

Apply lubricant to the area where the rubbing occurs. You can use Vaseline, anti-chaffing athletic products, graphite or other lubricant of your choice. Areas where you will need lubricant are likely between the heel and sole and between the insert and sole.

Prevent future squeaks by following the boot manufacturer's directions for keeping the leather supple.
