Fogged goggles can cause you to go off course in a triathlon.

Fogged swim goggles during a swim meet or triathlon can cost you precious time. Foggy goggles can also inhibit your ability to see while swimming, which can put you and other swimmers in danger. Anti-fog solutions can be purchased at sports equipment stores but are often pricey. Make your own anti-fog spray solution at home with baby shampoo and tap water. The formula is gentle on your eyes and your wallet.

Things You'll Need

Instructions

    • 1

Remove the cap from the top of the baby shampoo bottle. Pierce the protective foil with the pin, but do not remove the foil. This will prevent the shampoo from pouring out from the cap as you only need a small drop.

    • 2

Unscrew the top of the spray bottle. You will need to purchase a mini-sized spray bottle that is cylindrical in shape.

    • 3

Fill the spray bottle halfway with water from the tap.

    • 4

Drop one small drop of the baby shampoo into the bottle. Fill the bottle to the top with more tap water.

    • 5

Replace the top of the spray bottle and shake well.

    • 6

Lightly coat the inside of the goggle lenses with the spray before you swim.

    • 7

Rinse the lenses in the pool.

    • 8

      Repeat as necessary.

Tips & Warnings

  • Stow your spray bottle in your swim bag along with your towel.

  • Place your goggles in the water prior to your swim and your defogging solutions. The goggles will become the same temperature as the water, greatly reducing the chances of fogging.

  • You can also defog goggles by coating the lenses with the juice from a cut potato. Let the lenses dry and buff with a soft cloth.
