How to Create an .Oft Template

A Microsoft Outlook OFT file provides companies with email templates so you can send a formatted email with the same layout to customers. Typically OFT files are used for automated emails or newsletters you want to send each month to your customers. Outlook lets you create a template file from an existing message or a new message you create in the Outlook interface.

Instructions

    • 1

Open Microsoft Outlook from the Windows program menu. Open an email from which you want to create a template or click "New," then "Email Message" to create a new message.

    • 2

Type the template in the Outlook "Body" section of the email. For instance, if you want to send confirmation of an order to customers, type "Your order has been received." This text shows up in the OFT file each time you open it.

    • 3

Click the "File" menu item and click "Save As." Click "Outlook Template (*.oft)" in the "File Type" drop-down box.

    • 4

Choose a directory in which you want to store the template file. Click "Save" to save the changes and create the OFT file.
