Rotating an Object in InDesign

When working with desktop publishing and design, you want to have full use of your images and to be able to manipulate each photo, object or art image in the best way to create the final product that you envision. One example of when you may need to rotate an image is when you want to make a side banner and you want your image to mesh with the text. InDesign offers three simple options for you to perform this fundamental task in your design process.

Instructions

    • 1

Choose the object you want to rotate. Use the "select" tool to rotate the whole frame. If you only wish to rotate the object within the frame, direct-select the object. Another option is to rotate the frame itself while leaving the content in place. Select the frame and then all of the anchor points on the frame.

    • 2

Choose the "rotate" tool, which has its own icon that looks like an incomplete circle with an arrow at the top.

    • 3

Decide on your reference point for the rotation and click on it.

    • 4

Set the "rotate" tool away from the reference point and drag around it. Drag to rotate the object in multiples of 45 degrees by holding down "Shift" as you drag.
