DIY Wedding Treasure Chest
When it comes to planning the decor for your wedding reception, a high level of creativity is necessary if you want to stand out. One way to do this is through a clever centerpiece or party favor. Treasure chests may be one viable option for reception decor, even if your reception isn't pirate-themed. These treasure chests can be altered in countless ways to suit the bride's aesthetic desires, but the overall concept can remain the same.

1
Decide what you want your chests to look like. Do you want them to be more modern and sleek, or more antique-looking? Many of the chests you find will already have somewhat of an antique look to them, but some may be simple without any pre-existing decor. The simpler chests should be used if you are going for a more modern look.

2
Purchase the amount of chests you will need. Base this on how you will be using the chests. If the treasure chests are being used as centerpieces, you will need to procure one per table. If the chests are going to be party favors, you will need one per guest. Make sure to buy a few extra chests for a practice run, or in case something goes wrong.

Decorate the outside of the chests as you see fit. If you're happy with the way the chests look, skip to the next step. Paint the chests according to the color scheme of your wedding. Add a date to the bottom if the chests are being given as wedding favors.

Stuff the chests with whatever appeals to you. For centerpieces use items such as beads, gems, faux pearls and coins. These items should be easily found in any craft store. You can use only gold and silver items, or funky colorful items, depending on personal taste. If the chests are being used as favors, stuff them with items guests will actually want to take home, such as candy. If you wish to incorporate bottles of bubbles or confetti into your reception, these items may also be placed in the chests.
