How to Get Game Demos on an iPad
A huge number of games are available for the iPad from the online iTunes App Store, many of which require you to purchase them before you can download and play them. To help promote their full-priced games, a lot of software developers also release demos of their games -- often referred to as "lite" versions -- so you can try a sample before buying the full product. Game demos are downloaded from the App Store in the same way as full-priced titles, but are available for free.

Tips & Warnings
When searching, excluding the word "demo" or "lite" can yield better results. A game demo doesn't necessarily have either of those words in its title.
Despite the App Store dialog box using a "Buy" button, you will not be charged for downloading free games and apps.
