How to Flush the DNS on a Mac

Your Mac computer keeps track of the IP addresses and domain name system (DNS) items you have been in contact with as you surf the Web. At times, when you are having trouble with your Mac computer connection, you may want to flush the DNS. This process clears the DNS cache.

Instructions

    • 1

Click the "Finder" item on your Mac computer's dock and choose "Applications."

    • 2

Click the "Utilities" folder, then choose "Terminal."

    • 3

Type "dscacheutil -flushcache" (without the quotes) in the terminal box and press "Enter." The system will flush its DNS. Restart your computer.
