A suncatcher catches the rays of the sun as they shine through your window.

Suncatchers hang near the window in many people's homes to catch the sun as it shines through. These decorative ornaments come in a variety of designs to fit any homeowner's personality. You can create your own suncatcher in a design of your choice with some tissue paper and a few other supplies. Plan at least a day and a half to complete this craft since you will need to set aside a full day to allow the glue to dry.

  • Several sheets of tissue paper
  • 1 sheet card stock
  • Pencil
  • Freezer paper
  • Bowl

Instructions

    • 1

Tear pieces of tissue paper into roughly 3/4-inch pieces. The colors of the tissue paper will depend on the design you wish to use for your suncatcher. Some ideas include a planet, a star, the sun or a fish.

    • 2

Draw your desired design onto a sheet of card stock and glue a layer of freezer paper, shiny side-up, to the card stock. Cut out the design once the glue has dried.

    • 3

Mix equal parts glue and water in a bowl. Create a collage of tissue paper on top of the cut-out design by dipping pieces of the tissue paper into the glue solution and layering them on top of the design. Overlap several layers of paper on top of each other and cover the entire surface area of the card stock with tissue paper. Allow the glue to dry for 24 hours when finished.

    • 4

Peel the tissue paper collage off of the freezer paper once the glue has dried. Trim any rough edges in the design with scissors.

    • 5

Punch a hole into the top of the suncatcher with a hole punch. Thread a piece of string through the hole for hanging the finished craft near a window to catch the sun.
