How to Comb Out a Cat's Dreadlocks
Long-haired cats, those with soft coats, and cats that are shedding are prone to dreadlocks. Dreadlocks can form into mats that attach to the normal hair on your cat’s skin, and cause a variety of skin infections. You should comb your cat’s hair daily, as unkempt hair can result in dreadlocks or mats. Use the correct technique to comb your cat’s hair and untangle knots that cause dreadlocks.

Apply a pinch of cornstarch on the dreadlock to easily separate the hairs. Gently draw the dreadlock upward as you work the cornstarch in with your fingers, simultaneously loosening the hairs.

2
Slowly run a fine-tooth comb through the dreadlock to separate the hairs and comb out the dreadlock. Use a flea comb or baby comb to comb out small dreadlocks. Brushing loosens the knots in the dreadlock and reduces its size.
