How to Make the Lace Gridlines Disappear on a Lace Wig
Wigs are worn by women of all ages, often when they’re undergoing medical treatment that is causing hair loss. However, wigs are also worn for fashion purposes and hairstyle versatility. Lace front wigs are made from one of two types of lace: French lace and Swiss lace. While French lace is more durable, it’s slightly more detectable than Swiss lace. Swiss lace is easier to hide, but is thinner and rips easily. First-time wig-wearers are encouraged to use French lace wigs, since they’re easier to apply. Does this Spark an idea?

1
Order the lace for the wig in a shade that matches the color of the scalp. This will ensure the gridlines are less noticeable.
-
2
Order the wig with a specific part already in place. Underneath the part will be a skin-like area, so that no gridlines will show through. There are also wigs that can be parted several ways without exposing gridlines.

3
Send a template of the head to the wig company to ensure the best fit possible. This will allow the wig to be designed to fit a particular head and be virtually undetectable. Alternatively, measurements can be sent.
-
4
Trim the lace of the wig to the hairline before attaching the wig to the scalp. After the wig is placed on the head, trim the excess lace that is showing. There shouldn’t be any lace visible to the eye after trimming.
-
5
Glue a stocking that matches the color of the scalp into the wig if the wig will be parted in a different direction than for which it’s created. Do not glue the stocking all the way to the edges of the lace, since the lace is needed to secure the wig to the head.
-
6
Brush foundation onto the parts of the lace that are showing. Make sure to use a foundation that matches the color of the scalp, keeping in mind that this may be a different shade from the foundation used on the face.

Tips & Warnings
Wigs are attached to the scalp using wig adhesive, either liquid or tape. Liquid adhesives are easier for beginners to use. If the wig is going to be attached behind the natural hair line, adhesives aren’t suggested. Instead, the wig can be attached using bobby pins.
