Your iPhone automatically charges when attached to your computer.

By default, your iPhone is set to have everything synced automatically each time you connect your phone to iTunes. It is possible to manually manage which data gets synced to your iPhone. Once you disable automatic syncing, no changes are made to your iPhone unless you specifically initiate them.

Instructions

    • 1

Open iTunes on your computer and connect your iPhone to the computer using the dock connector-to-USB cable.

    • 2

Click on the name of your iPhone in the iTunes sidebar, which runs vertically down the left side of your iTunes window.

    • 3

Scroll down to the "Options" section of the "Summary" tab. Check the box next to "Manually manage music and videos" to stop iTunes from automatically syncing with your device each time it is connected. When you manually sync media files, the only time songs sync from iTunes to your iPhone is when you drag a file from your iTunes library to the name of your iPhone in the sidebar. If the iPhone syncs automatically, each time you connect your device its library is replaced with your current iTunes library.

Use the "Apps," "Ringtones," "Music," "Movies," "TV Shows" and "Photos" tabs to manually initiate a sync of the data represented by the tab. For example, go to the "Apps" tab and check the box next to "Sync Apps" at the top of the screen. Press the "Sync" button at the bottom of the screen to sync application data.

Go to the "Info" tab to sync calendars and contacts from your other computer programs, such as Google contacts, to your iPhone device. Click the "Sync" button at the bottom of the screen.
