How to Get a Worn Look on the Bottom of Denim Jeans After Hemming

How to Get a Worn Look on the Bottom of Denim Jeans After Hemming thumbnail
Create a worn look along the bottom of your freshly hemmed jeans.

You find a pair of flattering jeans with a worn look on the clearance rack, and they fit perfectly except for their length. A problem easily solved with some simple hemming, but unfortunately the hemming leaves the bottom edge of the jeans out of tune with the worn look for the pants. Not to worry, though, you can create an identical worn look along the freshly hemmed edge with items from around your house.

Things You'll Need

Instructions

    • 1

Sand the outside of the hem with a medium-grit sandpaper block. The more you sand the denim, the more worn it will look.

    • 2

Scrape the bottom edge of the hem with a disposable razor to fray the fibers along the bottom edge of the jeans. The more you scrape, the more worn the jeans will look.

    • 3

Wash the jeans as many times as necessary to achieve the level of fraying you want along the bottom edge of the jeans.
