How to Make Cute Ripped Jeans for a Toddler
Abercrombie and Fitch and American Eagle brought the world the ripped jeans, but this design never caught on amongst the Land's End, Oshkosh and Wonderkids brands. If you've ever wished your toddler's jeans were a bit more stylish, you can create the ripped look at home. Use the same methods you'd use on your own jeans -- sandpaper and elbow grease. Before you begin, though, you should be ready to sacrifice your toddler's jeans.

1
Have your toddler put on the pants and stand up. Mark the areas you want to rip and distress with a washable fabric pencil. Take off the pants.
-
2
Place cardboard inside each pant leg to prevent your efforts from wearing through to the back of the legs.

3
Use sandpaper and rub the surface of the jeans over the marks you made. Keep rubbing until you've made a small hole.
-
4
Enlarge the holes with your scissors. Resist the urge to cut too much fabric away, because the holes will enlarge in the washing machine. Fray the edges of your cuts using the sandpaper.
-
5
Drag a shaving razor over sanded areas. This will wear the material very thin and produce multiple cuts in one area.

Tips & Warnings
Distress the cuffs and pockets as well to complete the worn look.
A heavy jean will hold its distressed edges better than lightweight denim.
Heavily distressed jeans can be ruined in a machine wash.
