Directions to Replace the Fabric on a Domestic RV Awning
A good recreation vehicle (RV) awning provides shade from the sun and the rain. It’s only a matter of time before the fabric on the RV awning requires replacement. Fortunately, it’s relatively easy to swap the old fabric on an RV awning with an improved, new fabric covering. Although the job can be performed alone, it’s recommended to have someone help out with pulling and holding the fabric while it is still attached to the spring-loaded awning.

1
Stand at one end of the roller tube, and have someone stand at the other end. Together, pull the awning fabric completely out of the roller tube.
-
2
Instruct someone to hold the awning fabric in place. Place a slotted screwdriver through the hole in the main shaft to pin the awning roller tube in place.
-
-
3
Remove any screws retaining the old fabric to the awning rail. Pull the fabric off the awning rail and the channel on the roller tube. Dispose of the fabric in a safe manner.
-
4
Widen the opening on the awning rail with a pair of needle-nose pliers, if necessary. File down any sharp edges on the awning rail and the channel on the roller tube.
-
5
Attach the new fabric to the awning rail. Feed the fabric into the roller tube while keeping the fabric as straight as possible.
-
6
Remove the slotted screwdriver from the hole in the main shaft, and carefully wind the new fabric into the roller tube. Insert a screw onto each end of the awning rail to secure the awning fabric.
