Connecting Dreamweaver to EC2 SFTP

The Adobe Dreamweaver Web development application is a robust program that technical and nontechnical users can use to create websites. The program offers users the ability to program in code, use a visual website editor or create a website using both. Once the website is finished being developed in Dreamweaver, you'll need to test it on a live Web server to ensure that everything works as it does in your local development environment. Connecting Dreamweaver to an FTP site is one way that you can upload your files created in the program to a Web server.

Instructions

    • 1

Launch the Dreamweaver application and open the website code that you wish to add to the FTP server.

    • 2

Click on "Site" in the Dreamweaver application window and then select "Manage Sites."
Select the site in the list that you wish to upload, then select the "Advanced" tab to enter the "Remote Info" window.

    • 3

Select "FTP" from the list of options next to the "Access" drop-down menu.

    • 4

Type in the name of your FTP server into the "FTP" host field. Enter the host directory of your website, if you are not using the server's root directory, into the "Host Directory" field.

    • 5

Enter your login information to the FTP server by typing your username into the "Login" field and its associated password into the "Password" field. You may want to elect to click on the "Save" checkbox to avoid having to enter this information again in the future as you push updates from Dreamweaver to your FTP server.

    • 6

Click "OK" to save the FTP settings and complete granting Dreamweaver the ability to connect to an FTP server.
