1
Make 11 chain stitches using worsted weight yarn and a size U.S. H crochet hook.
-
2
Make a single crochet stitch in the second chain from the hook and in each chain across. Make one chain and turn.
-
-
3
Make a single crochet stitch in the top of every stitch across. Make one chain and turn. Repeat this step a total of eight more times.
-
4
Cut the working yarn with scissors, leaving a 4-inch tail. Use this tail to yarn over one last time and pull it through the loop on the hook to secure it. Set this piece aside for a moment.
-
5
Make three chain stitches using worsted weight yarn and a size U.S. H crochet hook.
-
6
Make a single crochet in the second chain from the hook and in the following chain. Make one chain and turn.
-
7
Make a single crochet in both stitches of this row; make one chain and turn. Repeat this step a total of eight more times. Fasten off as with the first piece.
-
8
Take the larger piece of crochet and pinch it in the center to make the basic shape of a bow. Wrap the second piece around this pinched section to make the center of the bow.
-
9
Thread the yarn tail from the narrow piece onto an embroidery needle. Use it to make a few stitches in the back of the bow to secure the shape of the bow and keep the narrow center band in place.
-
10
Use the embroidery needle to weave in any loose yarn tails on the back side of the bow to hide them.

Tips & Warnings
Sew the bow onto a barrette, hair elastic or headband using a hand sewing needle and coordinating thread.
Sew a button or rhinestone to the center of the bow to add interest.
Use actual ribbon instead of a crocheted center piece to give the bow textural contrast.
Make the bow larger or smaller by changing the number of your starting chain stitches.
To make a chain stitch, bring the yarn up and over the hook from back to front (yarn over). Pull the yarn through the loop on the hook to complete the stitch.
To make a single crochet stitch, insert the hook into the stitch indicated. Yarn over and draw up a loop, then yarn over and draw through both loops on the hook.
