A felt needle roll keeps sewing supplies handy.

A felt needle roll keeps your sewing needles, straight pins and safety pins in one spot. A pocket inside the roll will keep a tall thin spool of thread handy, as well. This needle roll is great for traveling, since the basic supplies for hemming and patching are neatly contained in one tubular shaped container. Several buttons can also be sewn to the inside of the needle roll for use if needed. A small pair of foldable scissors completes the traveling sewing kit.

Instructions

    • 1

Cut a rectangle of felt 8 inches wide and 12 inches long with the scissors.

    • 2

Cut a 6-inch square of felt with the scissors. Position the square flush against the bottom right corner of the felt rectangle. Pin the square in place. Hand sew the square to the rectangle, leaving the top edge open for a pocket. Sew small stitches 1/8-inch from the edges of the square. Hand sew a vertical seam down the middle of the square to create two pockets.

    • 3

Insert the tall thin spool of thread in one pocket and the folding scissors in the other pocket.

    • 4

Pin the straight pins in rows next to the thread and scissors pockets. Pin the safety pins next to the straight pins.

    • 5

Sew the buttons to the felt, using the needle and thread, next to the safety pins.

    • 6

Fold the ribbon in half. Hand sew the center point of the ribbon to the center of the short edge of the needle roll. Roll up the needle roll starting with the pocket edge. Wrap the ribbon around the needle roll and tie the ribbon in a bow to secure the needle roll.
