Faux mink fabric makes a soft blanket for a baby.

Faux mink fabric, known as "minky" fabric, is a popular choice for baby blankets. Minky fabric comes in many colors to coordinate with almost any fabric on the market. The most common pattern that uses faux mink fabric has the minky fabric on one side of the blanket and cotton flannel on the other side.

Instructions

    • 1

Cut your fabric to the size you want your blanket to be, plus a half-inch more on all sides. One option is to have the fabric cut to size at the fabric store so you do not have to make those adjustments at home. A large blanket is 45 inches square, which is about 1.25 yards.

    • 2

Prewash and dry the fabric to eliminate any possibility of shrinkage after the blanket has been sewn. Be careful when washing and drying the faux mink fabric, as it can scorch easily. Press out any wrinkles with an iron if necessary.

    • 3

Place the fabrics on top of each other, with right sides together, and pin together to keep the fabrics from shifting.

    • 4

Sew around the edge of the blanket, using a quarter-inch seam allowance. Leave a 4-inch section open.

    • 5

Turn the blanket right side out, pulling the fabric through the 4-inch hole.

    • 6

Sew the remaining 4-inch section closed using a blind stitch.
