How to Make a Warm Sand Neck Pillow

When you are trying to help yourself relax, you may think of using a neck pillow to ease the tension in your neck muscles. One way to further the relaxation is to use a neck pillow that is filled with sand, which can be warmed in a standard microwave. Instead of buying a premade warming neck pillow, you can save money by making one yourself using a few basic materials that can be found at any arts and crafts store.

Instructions

    • 1

Cut a rectangle from silk fabric using scissors to measure 12-by-24-inches long.

    • 2

Fold the rectangle in half width wise, then pin around the open edges using straight pins. Leave a 1/2 inch seam allowance around the pinned edges.

    • 3

Sew around the pinned edges using a needle and thread, leaving 2 inches unsewn. Remove the straight pins.

    • 4

Turn the sewn form right side out through the 2-inch hole. Insert a funnel into the hole.

    • 5

Pour sand into the sewn form through the hole, filling the sewn pillow halfway.

    • 6

Remove the funnel from the hole. Turn the edges of the opening in by 1/2 inch, then sew the opening closed.

    • 7

Heat the sand neck pillow in a microwave for 10 seconds to make it warm, then drape it around your neck.

Tips & Warnings

  • Keep sharp scissors, straight pins and sewing needles away from children.
