How to Create a Playlist From a Folder on a Mac OS

Group your favorite songs into a playlist.

Build a playlist to condense favorite songs into a folder that be used to play music appropriate for an occasion, such as upbeat tunes for a workout or instrumentals for a dinner party. Compilations allow users to select a specific artist to listen to without repeatedly changing a shuffle setting. Mac users can create a playlist of favorite songs in an alternative way instead of sorting song by song through the main list in iTunes. The new playlist folder can be dropped onto a connected MP3 player or placed on a jump drive for a backup.

Instructions

    • 1

Open your "Home" folder on the desktop.

    • 2

Select the "Music" folder, and then "iTunes" and "iTunes Music." This will show you a list of all saved files by artist accessible in iTunes.

    • 3

Click on the desktop and create a folder by pressing the shift, command and "N" keys simultaneously. Name this folder. For example, call it "New Favorites Playlist."

    • 4

Click and drag selected songs from the "iTunes Music" folder into the new playlist folder on the desktop.

    • 5

Connect an MP3 player to your computer using a USB cord. Click and drag the playlist folder into the player's icon after it appears on the desktop. Or, open iTunes and when the main screen appears, click and drag the playlist folder you created into the "Playlist" section found on the left side of the iTunes main screen.
