Create crayon blocks using used crayon scraps.

When you have children who enjoy coloring with wax crayons, then you know how frustrating it can be when the crayons are so small that they are no longer usable. Instead of throwing these crayon scraps into the trash, reuse them by transforming the crayon scraps into new crayons. Use basic kitchen items to melt the crayon scraps into a solid piece, which can be used as a multicolored block crayon.

Things You'll Need

  • Standard muffin tin
  • Vegetable cooking spray
  • Wax crayon pieces

Instructions

    • 1

Place a muffin tin onto a flat surface, and spray the each cup of the tin using vegetable cooking spray.

    • 2

Fill each cup of the tray with wax crayon scraps. The scraps do not need to be tiny, but must fit inside of the cups.

    • 3

Bake the muffin tin in a 275 degree Fahrenheit oven for seven minutes, which will melt the crayons inside of each cup.

    • 4

Allow the muffin tin to cool for one hour, then pop out the recycled block crayons with your fingers.

Tips & Warnings

  • Fill the cups with similar colors of crayon scraps to create uniformly-colored block crayons.

  • Do not touch melted crayons, which can cause burns on skin.
