Carpet treads add decorative detail to stairs and also provide a slip-free surface to walk on. Individual carpet treads are centered on stair treads so that the beauty of the wooden step is showcased around the carpet tread. Select adhesive-backed stair treads for ease of installation and replacement. Individual carpet treads come in a wide variety of styles. Choose a style that works well with the existing decor in your home. Use two different styles of treads to add an eclectic appearance to the stairway.
Things You'll Need
- Cleaning cloth
- All-purpose cleaning spray
- Adhesive-backed carpet treads
- Tape measure
Wash the wooden stair treads off using a cleaning cloth and all-purpose cleaning spray just before you are ready to install the individual carpet treads. Allow the treads to completely air dry before continuing with the installation.
Center the adhesive-backed carpet treads on each wooden stair tread using a tape measure. Make small pencil marks at each corner of the steps where you will be placing the carpet treads.
Lift up one tread and peel off the adhesive backing. Align the corners of the carpet tread with the pencil markings on the stair step and press the tread in place with your hands. Follow the same process for each of the steps in the staircase.
