1
Assess what feels monotonous about your everyday routine at work, including why you feel bored or unmotivated. Make a list of your current feelings and when you most feel the way you do during your work day. Understanding when your boredom occurs can help you find simpler solutions to getting rid of the monotony.

2
Create a list of your passions, favorite hobbies and interests. After writing a list of everything from walking your dog to creating art in your spare time, eliminate the majority of the items. The remaining items on your list should be your true passions -- passions and hobbies that are sincere and heartfelt, such as helping others or writing songs.

Write various potential monetizing opportunities that also include your passions. If you are an artist, consider freelancing or selling art in your free time. As a musician, begin planning new songs and setting up gigs and events outside of work. If your passion is education, register for online classes or at a local university to further your career and job skills.

4
Attend training courses and career advancement opportunities within your own company if you are interested in climbing the ladder in your current workplace. Speak with your boss about furthering your position in the company and politely suggest that you are open for additional responsibilities and duties.
