1
Measure your window from the top of the window opening down to the spot below the windowsill where you want the curtain to end. Add 6 inches to this measurement to find the length of fabric to cut.
-
2
Cut two pieces of fabric in the length you calculated. Lay one piece of fabric on a table in front of you with the raw edges at the top and the bottom.
-
-
3
Fold up the bottom edge of the fabric a half-inch and pinch the fabric on the fold to make a crease. Fold the same edge up another half-inch and pin it in place.
-
4
Place the fabric on the ironing board with the pinned side facing up. Unpin the hem a little at a time, placing a strip of fusible web between the body of the curtain and the hem where it was pinned. Replace the pins to hold the layers in place as you go along the width of the curtain.
-
5
Cover the hem with a thin towel and press the hem with an iron on the "wool" setting. Use steam and follow the directions on the fusible web packaging. Allow the web to cool. This will secure the bottom hem of the curtains.
-
6
Place the fabric back on your work table with the other raw edge at the bottom. Fold the bottom edge up a half-inch as before and crease the fold. Fold the edge up again, but this time make a 2-inch fold. Pin the fold in place, insert the fusible web and press just like you did on the bottom hem. This will create a tube at the top of the curtain through which you can slide the curtain rod.
-
7
Make a second curtain exactly like you did the first one. Hang the curtains in the window with the hemmed side facing outside.
