How to Remove the Front on a Whirlpool Duet Washer

When the need arises to replace the counterweights or springs on a Whirlpool Duet washer, the front of the washer will need to be removed. Once you know how to remove the front on a Whirlpool Duet washer, the parts will be readily accessible. The front panel removal will include removing the control console cover. The entire process can be accomplished in 30 minutes with only a couple of basic hand tools.

Step 1

Disconnect the Whirlpool Duet washer from the wall outlet. Pull the Duet washer away from the wall so that you can access the rear of the washer.

Step 2

Go behind the washer and remove the three screws that secure the top panel to the back of the washer using a Phillips-head screwdriver. Lift the top panel off of the washer and set it out of your way.

Step 3

Go to the front of the washer and locate the touchpad assembly ribbon connector. The connector is on the left front side corner. Press in on the connector tabs and pull the wiring connector apart. Pull the dispenser drawer out, and press down on the release tab at the back of the drawer to pull the drawer completely out of the washer.

Step 4

Use a Phillips-head screwdriver to remove the retaining screw that is inside the dispenser drawer opening. On the right side of the control console, press the releasing tab that secures the console to the washer. Open the washer door and insert a flathead screwdriver into the slot in the bottom center of the console above the door opening. Push the control console cover up to release the console tab in the center. Lift the control console cover up, and set it out of your way.

Step 5

Use a flathead screwdriver to remove the front retaining spring from around the tub boot. Using your fingers, carefully move the edge of the boot away from the lip of the drum near the door switch. You want enough room to access the door switch behind the washer front panel.

Step 6

Use a Phillips-head screwdriver to remove the three screws securing the door switch to the washer from inside the washer. Carefully pull the door switch away from the washer and in between the boot and washer front.

Step 7

Use a Phillips-head screwdriver to remove the three screws securing the toe panel to the front of the washer. The screws are directly under the toe panel near the base of the washer. Pull the toe panel away from the washer.

Step 8

Using a Phillips-head screwdriver, remove the screws securing the bottom of the front panel and the top of the front panel to the washer. Pull the front panel off of the duet washer.
