How to Make an Adult-Size Headband With Ribbon & Velcro
Headbands are a versatile fashion accessory that can transform the look of a hairstyle or an outfit. Although they can be bought in a store, adult-size headbands are easy to make with ribbon and Velcro and are very inexpensive. Since ribbon is available in so many fabrics, prints and sizes, you can customize your headband to complement your outfit or the season.
Instructions

1
Wrap a measuring tape around your head in the location that you want your headband to be and then record the measurement.
-
2
Cut a piece of ribbon 1/2 inch longer than the measurement you recorded.
-
-
3
Fold each end of the ribbon back 1/4 inch, then hand-stitch the ends in place. Use a thread color similar to the color of your ribbon and make sure the rough side of the stitching is on the back of the ribbon.
-

Stick the hook side of an adhesive Velcro strip over the rough side of one of the seams you just created, and the loop side of the Velcro strip over the rough side of the other seam. Velcro tabs are sold in pre-cut circles and strips of various sizes, as well as tape in various widths that can be cut to any length you like. Just make sure the width of the Velcro you choose is slightly less than the width of the ribbon you are using.
-
5
Sew around all four edges of the Velcro strips using the same thread you used to sew the seams in your ribbon. This can be done by hand or with a sewing machine. Again, make sure the rough side of the stitching is on the back of the ribbon.

Tips & Warnings
You can make a thicker headband with more color and dimension by sewing a thinner ribbon down the center of your thicker ribbon.
You can personalize your headband by using a glue gun to attach a fake flower or a bow in the middle or off to one side of your headband, or you can embellish the headband with tiny seashells or gems in the center of the headband.
