DIY Styrofoam Bearded Dragon
The bearded dragon hails from wooded areas in Asia, Australia and Africa. A type of lizard, it is known for its trademark beard, which helps keep predators at bay by making the bearded dragon look larger and more intimidating. Bearded dragons are often kept as pets and are able to live long lives in captivity. You can make a Styrofoam bearded dragon with objects easily procured from the craft store.

- 6- to 8-inch in diameter tube of Styrofoam

- One 2-inch long, thin wooden dowel
- One 8- to 10-inch in diameter Styrofoam ball
- One 1-inch in diameter Styrofoam ball
- Knife

1
Take the tube of Styrofoam and begin to gently shape it into the bearded dragon's body. Use your knife to make cuts and gently sand down the edges to make them look more polished. Begin by sanding down the tube itself in the middle to make a body and then cutting the back of the tube into a long triangle so that it slowly makes a tail.
-
2
Sand your bearded dragon until it is smooth.
-
-
3
Cut a small section at the diameter of the larger Styrofoam ball in an arc shape to make the bearded dragon's hand. Sand until smooth.
-
4
Push a 2-inch long wooden dowel into the bearded dragon's body on the opposite end of the tail. Place the head on the other end of the dowel so that the head and body are now connected.
-
5
Cut your 1-inch Styrofoam ball in half and set aside.
-
6
Paint the halves of the 1-inch Styrofoam ball black and the body of the animal green. Paint your dowels green as well.
-
7
Cut out four clove shapes from your green felt for the feet. Glue them to the ends of the four dowels when the dowels have sufficiently dried.
-
8
Stick the four dowels into the bearded dragon where his arms and legs should be.
-
9
Glue the halves of your small Styrofoam ball on the head where the eyes would be.
-
10
Use your permanent marker to make a mouth on your bearded dragon.
-
11
Cut two pieces of green felt that are 1/2-inch tall and the length of your bearded dragon's body, excluding the head. Cut four pieces of green felt which are 1/4 of an inch tall and 4 inches wide.
-
12
Cut jagged pieces into them in the shape of alternating triangles.
-
13
Glue the two long strips of felt on your bearded dragon's back, the jagged side facing upward.
-
14
Place the rest of the felt underneath the dragon's chin, one underneath the other. Secure with glue. Pull the ends up just a little bit so that the "jagged parts" stick out.
