How to Make a Felted Brooch

How to Make a Felted Brooch thumbnail
Felt is widely available at most craft supply stores.

Brooches or other small accessories are a great way to use up leftover bits and pieces of felt. Wear your brooch as an elegant embellishment to your ensemble, or sport a decorative brooch on your backpack or purse. Custom design your brooch to suit your own style and taste, or quickly assemble a personalized, last-minute gift for a friend or colleague. Felt and pinbacks are inexpensive, so make multiple brooches to mix and match.

Instructions

    • 1

Draw on paper the design you would like to make. Then draw on another piece of paper each individual shape that makes up your brooch.

    • 2

      Cut out each paper shape.

    • 3

Select the colors of felt you want to use for each section of your design. Using your paper shapes as templates, cut out each section in your chosen color of felt.

    • 4

Sew all of the sections of felt together, by hand, using thread and needle. A seam allowance isn't necessary; simply sew each section together. Glue your felted brooch onto a pinback.
