How to Make Your Own Washable Hair Dye With Food Coloring
It's popular to have a Halloween costume that requires colored hair, but you probably don’t want to spend the rest of the year with a new hair color for a look that was intended for a single day. The good news is that you can make your own washable hair dye at home with food coloring. Not only is this dye inexpensive, but it also takes just minutes to mix and the application is less stressful than permanent dyes, since food coloring does not stain as easily. Things You'll Need
- Towel
- Rubber or latex gloves
- 1 tablespoon food coloring
- 2 tablespoons conditioner
- Hair dye applicator bottle
- Comb
- Shower cap
- Clarifying shampoo

Cover your chest and shoulders with a towel and put on a pair of rubber or latex gloves. Wear old clothes; food coloring stains cotton.

Mix 1 tablespoon of food coloring with 2 tablespoons of conditioner inside a hair dye applicator bottle. Cover the hole at the top of the bottle with your thumb and shake the bottle until the mixture is an even color.

Hold the applicator bottle over your head and gently squeeze it so the mixture drizzles in your hair. Distribute the mixture throughout your hair with a comb.

Cover your head with a shower cap and let the mixture set for six to eight hours. Remove the shower cap and rinse the excess food coloring out of your hair until the water runs clear. Then, style your hair as desired.

Wash your hair with clarifying shampoo when you are ready to remove the food coloring from your hair. Repeat as needed until the color is removed.
