How to Kill Hair Follicles

Whether you're looking to get rid of your random chin hairs or want to clean up your bikini line, there are two ways to kill hair follicles. Both electrolysis and laser hair removal are permanent options to getting rid of unwanted hair. Electrolysis can be painful and time consuming since a salon can only take care of small patches of hair at a time. Laser hair removal isn't as painful but takes more appointments at the clinic in order to be successful.

Using Electrolysis

Find a salon that provides electrolysis in your area. Make sure they have a good reputation. Ask them about their safety and hygiene measures to see if they're right for you.

Grow out your hair for a few days before visiting the salon. The electrolysis technician will need to see which hair follicles need zapping, so stubble is a must. Avoid keeping the hair longer than one centimeter.

Take an aspirin or similar pain reliever a half an hour before your appointment. This will limit the pain you'll experience from the procedure.

Visit the salon for your electrolysis appointment. Have patience during the procedure as it can be painful and time consuming. Make another appointment based on the opinions of the salon. You'll need to keep visiting until all of the desired hair follicles are killed, which depends on how much hair needs to be removed.

Using Laser Hair Removal

Find a reputable laser clinic in your area. Look at the yellow pages and at websites of local companies. Get recommendations from those you know who have had the same laser treatment. Make an appointment with the clinic.

Let your tan fade. Since the laser destroys darker pigmentation, a tan could ruin the results of a laser treatment. Make sure your skin color is natural before your appointment.

Grow out your unwanted hair into short stubble. This will make it easier for the laser to find the hair follicles to kill.

Attend your laser hair removal session. Be sure to visit them again within their recommended time period, as laser hair removal needs several sessions before it becomes effective at ceasing hair growth.
