Magic Chef ovens with electronic function displays may occasionally malfunction. In such a case, an error message should appear on the display. An error message that reads “F1,” for instance, means something has gone wrong with the temperature sensor inside the oven. This could be caused by a loose connection, a failed sensor or other circumstances. You may be able to troubleshoot and fix the problem yourself if you're a skilled electrical do-it-yourselfer; otherwise you are liable to need a repair professional's assistance to fix the issue and clear the code.

Disconnect the power to the Magic Chef oven or reset the circuit breaker to turn off power if the power cord is not accessible. Restore power after 30 seconds.
Unplug or disconnect power to the oven if the F1 error code remains.
Open the oven door and find the oven sensor, which is located on the back wall of the oven and protrudes slightly. Slide out the range to access the rear of the oven if the sensor is not visible from the oven interior. Disconnect the screws holding the back panel in place on the range and remove the rear panel.
Use an ohmmeter to check the continuity of the oven temperature sensor. Turn on the ohmmeter and touch the red and black ohm sensor wires on the oven temperature sensor. Watch the face of the ohmmeter for the continuity reading.
Contact Maytag for a new oven temperature sensor if the probe measures less or more than around 1100 ohms with the ohmmeter. If the probe measures around 1100 ohms, the oven control assembly requires replacement. It's best to let a professional handle such repairs unless you're experienced with the task.

- You might want to have assistance pulling the oven out from the wall if accessing the rear of the oven is necessary.
