How to Fix Scuffed Chrome
Chrome is an attractive, shiny metal plating commonly used on vehicles, appliances and even for artistic touches on household items and collectibles. The downside of chrome plating is that it can be fragile, especially if it was fairly low-quality to begin with, and scuffed or scratched chrome can cause an item to look old or worn. Things You'll Need
- Chrome paint
- Polishing cleaning product safe for use on chrome (usually made for automobiles)
- Microfiber wash cloths
- Mild liquid dish soap

Wash the chrome item with a soft microfiber wash cloth and mild liquid dish soap to remove any dirt or debris that could cause additional scratching or scuffing during your repairs.

Apply polisher to chrome in the area of the scuff, and gently buff as directed by the polishing product manufacturer's instructions. Make sure you're not buffing through the chrome plating to the metal underneath.

Spray the scuffed area with a liquid chrome touch-up repair paint if you cannot buff the scuff away. These products are designed to touch up damaged chrome and will hide the scuff after the product dries. Follow the manufacturer's instructions on the product you purchase to ensure the best results.

Take your item, if necessary, to a business that professionally replates chrome. These services may be expensive, but the item will be completely stripped down and the chrome reapplied to return it to like-new condition.
