How to Read Kindle Ebooks on Nook Color

How to Read Kindle Ebooks on Nook Color thumbnail
Barnes & Noble's line of e-book reader doesn't support Kindle e-book file formats.

Amazon E-books are available in .AZW or .MOBI format, both of which are e-book file formats that are unsupported by the Barnes & Noble’s Nook Color. Don’t despair: the treasure trove of free public-domain e-books available on Amazon isn’t shut off for Nook Color owners. To read Kindle-formatted e-books on the Nook Color, the books must first be converted into a compatible format then transferred to the Nook’s “Personal Documents” directory. There are two ways to do this: the first uses Calibre to convert and transfer the e-books; the second uses a Web-based file converter service and manual file transferring.

Things You'll Need

  • Calibre (required for first method)
  • Micro USB to USB connection cable

    • 5

Select “ePub” from the “Output format” menu on the top right corner of the window.

    • 7

Connect the micro USB plug into the Nook Color’s connection port. Connect the other end of the USB cable into the computer. Calibre will scan and automatically recognize the device.

    Web-based Conversion and Manual Transfer

    • 11

Select “Nook Color” if it requests the e-book reader you’re converting it for, or select “ePub” if it requests a file format to convert to. Click “Convert file” to confirm. After the conversion process has completed, download the converted file to your computer.

    • 12

Connect the mini USB plug into the Nook Color connection port and connect the USB plug into your computer.
