Brush dust from fragile feathers.

Dust -- its very existence is the bane of homeowners, as it requires constant cleaning. The fine dirt particles drift freely through the air and show no discrimination by settling wherever they please. Typical cleaning methods will not work to dust a feather lamp. Whether you are working with real feathers or contour craft feathers, both are delicate and easily ruined by water. Keep the feathered lamp clean by dusting the feathers manually with a hair dryer and soft bristle brush. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Hold a hair dryer 10 inches from the feather lamp. Set it on the coolest setting and blow loose dust from the feathers.

    • 2

Raise a feather up slightly with one hand beneath it. If you can’t get your hand beneath the feather, then gently grasp the top of the feather closest to the plume.

    • 3

Brush dust from the feather with a 2-inch paintbrush. Use a brush with soft, synthetic bristles. Brush the feather in the direction of the plumage.

    • 4

Rub a damp cloth over hard-to-remove dust spots. Make sure the cloth is only slightly damp, not soaking wet.

Tips & Warnings

  • Dust the feathered lamp regularly to prevent heavy dust buildup.
