How to Attach a Valance on a Wooden Blind
Wooden window blinds are a beautiful alternative to traditional curtains or draperies. They can add appeal to any room. With the wide range of available colors, every room style and color can be perfectly matched. Adding a wooden valance to your existing wooden blinds will give your window a tailored look and will hide the head rail at the top of the blind. Most wooden blind manufacturers include a wooden valance in the blind packaging, but you can purchase more elaborate valances to give your blind a very different look. Valance installation differs depending on whether or not your blind was installed as an inside mount or an outside mount. Does this Spark an idea?

Inside Mounted Valance
-
1
Attach the valance clips to the head rail of your previously installed wooden blind.
-
2
Lift the valance into place making sure the channel strips and clips are perfectly aligned for attachment.
-
-
3
Press firmly on the valance until it locks into place and connects to the channel strips. You should hear a small click when the valance snaps into place.
Outside Mounted Valance
-
4
Mark a line with the pencil on each side of the window where you want your wood valance to be placed. Be sure to measure with a steel measuring tape and allow enough room to accommodate an existing blind or curtain rod, if curtains or drapes will hang underneath the valance.
-
5
Mark a level line, using a carpenter's level, to ensure the valance will hang straight on the wall.
-
6
Predrill holes for the valance brackets with the drill, using the leveled lines as a guide.
-
7
Attach the bracket hardware to the wall on your predetermined marks, using a screwdriver.
-
8
Attach the side returns to include the small connectors, or L-shaped brackets, on each side of the window.
-
9
Attach the wood valance to the L-brackets using the coordinating hardware included with the valance. If the valance simply slides into the L-brackets, slide the valance firmly onto the brackets and ensure the positioning allows a secure attachment, without any movement.
-
10
Raise and lower the blind to ensure it is functioning properly. If the blind is not working in a smooth fashion, remove the valance and inspect the blind to see if anything is prohibiting it from properly moving up and down.
